Sundial

This sundial is a featured element in a memorial garden commemorating a former employee of the Chaska Community Center in Chaska, MN. JIT was asked to design a sundial using various design elements that had special meaning for this individual. Those elements included a Calla Lily, the sun and clouds. There was also poetic text that needed to be incorporated into the design.

Prototype glass

The sundial was achieved by waterjet cutting the various elements from bronze plate. The poetic text was then hand milled into the bronze. Then the individual elements were layered and welded in such a manner so that the weld lines were invisible to the casual observer. The base was fabricated using steel and then it was powder coated with a bronze finish to match the sundial. The entire piece was finished off with a chemical patina to give it an aged look. In this instance installation was also provided by JIT.
